Obama sold the monument..?!?!

I have not been following US politics since I left, but I was shocked to find out that Obama sold the Washington Monument to the Argentinian government.  I knew Obama was into giving things away for free...but come on the Washington Monument...and they just planted it right in the middle of the street...?!?
