Foz de Iquazu

We got into Foz de Iquazu (Brazilian sideof Iquazu Falls) early in the morning and after three bus switches and and illegal border crossing from Brazil (we accidentally stayed on the bus when we should have gotten off and gotten our exit stamps from Brazil) we finally arrived in Puerto Iguazu (Argentinian side of Iquazu Falls) where were staying the nest few days.  Our hostel was really nice, just remodeled apparently with a bamboo motif (its called Bambu Hostel...how original).

We then trekked by bus back over into Brazil after dropping all our bags off to sneak back into Brazil and see the falls on that side before getting our exit stamps correctly this time. Apparently, they are really lax about the border crossings, but we needed to correct our status in the Brazilain system to make sure they knew we had left.

Below is us walking to the border crossing the second time around (the traffic was too much to wait in the bus but we felt extra sketchy WALKING to the border :) everything was perfectly fine, though)

The falls on the Brazilian side were amazing...there are just soo many falls, they take over the entire landscape. Its really unbelievable how many there are. I (Scott) have seen Niagra Falls and while I think the overall height of Niagra is higher, the shear number and loudness of the Iquazu Falls overshadows Niagra by far!! I don't think the pictures will do it justice, but we've included some of the better ones for your viewing pleasure. A brief synopsis of some of the falls' statistics--275 waterfalls in total, 1800 m3/second of falling water = 10million liters per second, Devil's Throat, Garganta del Diablo (one of the larger section of falls) is 90meters high, it has been nominated as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, the preserve is the last remaining sub-tropical rainforest in Brazil. The falls are part of a nature preserve as well, so there are animals all over the place, espcially butterflies and these racoon animales called coati. They would walk up to tables and grab food, pretty crazy!
